Lake Malawi

A freshwater lake with more fish species than any other on earth.

About

Lake Malawi runs for 580 kilometres down the Rift Valley and holds more species of fish than any other lake in the world — over a thousand types of cichlid, most found nowhere else, which is why parts of it are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For visitors it functions as an inland sea: clear freshwater snorkelling, kayaking between islands, and beach villages where the fishing day sets the rhythm.

Highlights

  • Snorkelling with cichlids
  • Likoma Island
  • Cape Maclear
  • Kayaking and sailing
