I finally said yes to rafting the Nile

I've lived in Kampala my whole life and never rafted the Nile. This year I stopped making excuses.

The guides spent a long time on safety before we touched a single rapid, which helped my nerves. The first big rapid flipped us almost straight away — and I came up laughing.

Between rapids the river is calm and wide, and we floated on our backs watching fish eagles. Lunch on a rock in the middle of the river tasted like the best meal of the year.
