Tarangire National Park
Baobabs and elephant herds along a river that never dries.
About
Tarangire is the dry-season refuge of the northern circuit: as the surrounding country hardens, animals move to the Tarangire river and elephant gather in herds of a hundred or more between enormous baobabs. Fewer vehicles come here than to the Serengeti, and the birdlife — over 500 species recorded — is the best in northern Tanzania.
Highlights
- Large elephant herds
- Ancient baobabs
- Silale swamp
- 500-plus bird species
