About
São Tomé and Príncipe are volcanic islands on the equator, thick with rainforest and dotted with roças — the old cocoa plantation estates, some restored as hotels, others slowly falling in. Pico Cão Grande rises as a bare volcanic needle above the forest, endemic birds are everywhere, and Príncipe is a UNESCO biosphere reserve with beaches you may have to yourself.
