Santo Antão
Ridge walks above terraced valleys on the greenest of the Cape Verde islands.
About
Santo Antão is a walker's island: volcanic ridges drop into valleys terraced with sugar cane and banana, cobbled paths link villages clinging to the slopes, and the Cova crater and Paul valley walk is one of the finest day hikes in the Atlantic. The dry southern side is a different island altogether — bare lava and empty coast.
Highlights
- Cova to Paul valley walk
- Ribeira Grande villages
- Grogue sugar-cane distilleries
- Coastal cliff roads
