Mount Cameroon rises straight out of the Atlantic to 4,040 metres, the highest point in West and Central Africa and still active. The climb from Buea passes through farmland, rainforest and tussock grass onto bare lava in two or three days, and the annual Mount Cameroon Race of Hope sends runners up and down in a single morning.
