Erg Chebbi, Merzouga
Saharan dunes 150 metres high, at the end of the road east.
About
Erg Chebbi is a sea of wind-built dunes rising abruptly out of flat stony desert near the Algerian border, some reaching 150 metres. The standard visit is a camel trek out from Merzouga in late afternoon, a night in a desert camp under some of the clearest skies anywhere, and a climb up the nearest dune for sunrise. Gnawa musicians in nearby Khamlia trace their music to sub-Saharan roots.
