Loango National Park
Where forest elephants and buffalo walk out onto an Atlantic beach.
About
Loango is the park that gave rise to the phrase 'surfing hippos' — a stretch of Gabonese coast where rainforest, savannah, lagoon and ocean meet, and where forest elephant, buffalo and gorilla are regularly seen on the sand. Humpback whales pass offshore between July and September, leatherback turtles nest on the beaches, and Gabon's forests remain among the least disturbed in the Congo Basin.
