Essaouira
A walled Atlantic port of blue boats, ramparts and steady wind.
About
Essaouira's fortified medina faces the Atlantic behind eighteenth-century ramparts, and its harbour still lands sardines each morning under a crowd of gulls. The wind that makes the beach a kitesurfing favourite also keeps the town cool through summer, and the music scene — gnawa above all — gives it a character quite unlike the imperial cities inland.
Highlights
- Skala ramparts
- Working fishing port
- Kitesurfing beach
- Gnaoua music festival
