Chefchaouen

A mountain town painted in a hundred shades of blue.

About

Chefchaouen sits high in the Rif, and almost every wall, step and doorframe in its medina is painted blue — a tradition variously attributed to Jewish refugees who settled here in the 1930s, to keeping mosquitoes away, or simply to habit now sustained by the town. It is small enough to walk in an afternoon, and the hike up to the Spanish Mosque at sunset gives the view the town is known for.
