Agadez
A Saharan caravan city built in mud brick, with a minaret you can climb.
About
Agadez grew as a trans-Saharan trading city and remains the gateway to the Aïr Mountains and the Ténéré desert. Its old town is mud-brick and UNESCO-listed, dominated by the sixteenth-century Grand Mosque whose minaret, bristling with wooden beams, can be climbed for a view over flat brown roofs. Tuareg silverwork — the Agadez cross above all — is made here.
